Lacquerware is made from the sap of lacquer trees that grow only in Japan, Korea, China, and Southeast Asia. Hence, lacquer is uniquely an Asian applied art. This collection of lacquerware includes objects from the late Heian to late Edo and Meiji periods (10th to 19th centuries) as well as Chinese and Korean lacquer works.
