These stupas were found in a back alley of Umamachi, about 500 meters northeast of the Museum. They are said to have originally been the graves, which stood on the north and south of a burial mound, of the brothers Tsugunobu and Tadanobu, who belonged to the family of the warrior Minamoto Yoshitsune (1159-89). These stone monuments underwent restoration in 1940, during which time, offertory relics such as small Buddhist images and miniature stupas were found stored within. The north stupa (front right) is without inscription, while the south stupa (back left) has an inscription that dates it to Einin 3 (1295).
