- The Brilliance of Chinese Bird and Flower Painting
- January 2, 2015 - February 8, 2015
Birds and flowers, together with landscapes, form one of the major painting subjects for Chinese painters. While landscape paintings are often imbued with deep spirituality and refined sensibility, bird and flower paintings are most appreciated for their colorful details of flowers such as plum or peach blossoms, peonies, and chrysanthemums, and birds such as cranes or Chinese bamboo partridges. This exhibition features a range of paintings of flowering plants and of birds and flowers, including Ming dynasty masterworks and even works by Qing-dynasty artists who visited Japan. We hope that these colorful Chinese paintings help kick off a brilliant start to the New Year.
