Goshirakawa (1127-1192, r. 1155-1158), the warlord Taira no Kiyomori
(1118-1181), and the hegemon Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536-1598), who were
instrumental in shaping the history of the Higashiyama (geastern
mountainsh) district, where the Kyoto National Museum now stands.
