| Among the gifts that Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) presented Emperor Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) for his sovereign message include an album of one hundred Japanese landscape and genre paintings and two lacquered shelves decorated with sprinkled metal powder (J., makie), which are currently in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. These gifts will return to Japan for the first time for this exhibition. Especially highlighted will be the album of paintings, which has never been exhibited in Vienna and which will be shown to the public for the first time in Japan. |
