- Feature Exhibition: Nishimiyayama Kofun Unearthed: Artifacts from the Tomb of a Harima Chieftain
- January 2, 2022 - February 13, 2022
The Nishimiyayama Kofun (tumulus) in Tatsuno, Hyōgo prefecture, is a rare example of a keyhole-shaped tumulus from the latter part of the Kofun period (ca. 3rd. c.–6th c.), which preserves the original contents of its burial goods. This exhibition presents findings from a collaborative research project between the Kyoto National Museum and the Tatsuno History and Culture Museum in 2019 and 2020. It features artifacts and documents that tell a new story of the tomb, as well as the history of Harima and its relation to central political structures during the age of ancient Japanese state formation.
