Sakamoto Ryōma(1836-1867) is one of the most popular heroes of the nineteenth century ― a time when Japan ended its long seclusion and began to enter the modern era. This program examines the appeal of this visionary figure through his letters, which were Sakamoto family and descendents of owners of the Ōmiya Inn in which Ryōma was assassinated.
