Announcement of Partial Closures of the Museum, March 15–April 10, 2016

The Kyoto National Museum's red brick special exhibitions hall, the Meiji Kotokan, is currently closed in preparation for structural upgrades. Special exhibitions are being organized instead inside the new Heisei Chishinkan Wing. For this reason, some or all of the Heisei Chishinkan Wing galleries may be closed to the public for installation before and after special exhibitions.

During these closure periods, the Kyoto National Museum's gardens and sometimes other areas of the Heisei Chishinkan Wing remain open to the public, with a reduced admission fee. Please check the following schedule for details. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Partial Closure of Heisei Chishinkan Wing Galleries:


March 15 (Tuesday) –21 (Monday, Public Holiday), 2016

Open areas: Sculpture gallery, Feature Exhibition Room (1F), painting galleries (2F), other public areas of the Heisei Chishinkan (grand lobby, museum shop, lecture theater), museum gardens, outdoor exhibits
Closed areas: All 3F galleries, some 1F galleries

Admission: General 260 yen (*210 yen)、University Student 130 yen (*110 yen)
(Free admission for youths under 17 and seniors over 70. *Fees in parentheses are for groups of 20+)
Hours: 9:30–17:00 (enter by 16:30)

Full Closure of Heisei Chishinkan Wing Galleries:


March 23 (Wednesday) –April 3 (Sunday), 2016
closed: March 28

Open areas: Museum gardens, outdoor exhibits, public areas of the Heisei Chishinkan (grand lobby, museum shop, lecture theater)
Closed areas: All museum galleries

April 5 (Tuesday) –April 10 (Sunday), 2016

Open areas: Museum gardens, outdoor exhibits
Closed areas: Entire Heisei Chishinkan (no entrance into building)

Admission: 260 yen (includes guide booklet to the Kyoto National Musuem gardens and outdoor exhibits)
(Free admission for youths under 17 and seniors over 70, not including guide booklet.)
Hours: 9:30–17:00 (enter by 16:30)
