Archeological Ceramic Vessels

Over the long expanse of history, human beings have made vessels in a variety of shapes. This exhibition features vessels in a range of ceramic mediums, which have been unearthed from archaeological sites in Japan. This exhibition features low-fired earthenware pieces from the Jōmon period (pre 10,000 BCE –sometime between 400s and 200s BCE) and Yayoi period (sometime between 400s and 200s BCE –ca. 200s CE), low-fired Haji ware, high-fired Sue ware, three-color glazed Nara sansai ware, green-glazed ceramics, porcelains, and other examples of archaeological vessels dating from the Jōmon period to the Kamakura period (1185–1333). Visitors should be able to compare their wide range of clays, shapes, decorations, and glazes.
