Autumn Special Opening of the Tan'an Teahouse November 18 to November 24, 2025

The Kyoto National Museum's teahouse was constructed on the museum grounds in 1958 with the support of Ueda Tan'ichirō (Tan'an, b. 1906). Built in the sukiya architectural style, it reflects the refined traditions of Kyoto court culture during the early Edo period (1615–1868).
For a limited time, visitors are invited to step inside and experience the charm of this historic teahouse.

*During the period of this events, the museum galleries are closed for installation, and only the museum gardens are open. Visitors will only be able to view the museum gardens and outdoor exhibits. Announcement of Closures of the Museum Galleries, November 17 to December 15, 2025

Tan'an Teahouse
The teahouse is located behind the East Gardens, which are to the right of the South Gate Entrance. Please view the museum map for further details.

*A same-day ticket for the museum gardens is required.

Notes
  • Please do not touch any of the exhibits or furnishings within the teahouse.
  • Please refrain from eating, drinking, or staying for an extended period.
  • If the teahouse is crowded, visitors may be asked to wait to enter.
