Special Opening of the Meiji Kotokan Hall, March 14, 2026

Exploring Kyoto Culture at the Meiji Kotokan Hall: Looking Ahead to the Museum's 130th Anniversary, Event Ⅰ
2027 will mark the 130th anniversary of the opening of the Kyoto National Museum.
To commemorate this occasion, the Meiji Kotokan (Main Hall of the Former Imperial Museum of Kyoto) will be opened to the public for a special viewing.

The Meiji Kotokan was completed in 1895 and was designated an Important Cultural Property in 1969.
At present, the building is not used for exhibitions and is normally closed to the public in preparation for seismic isolation retrofitting and related renovations.
We invite visitors to enjoy this rare opportunity to view the interior of the Meiji Kotokan, which is not usually accessible to the public.
