Description of Exhibition

The zodiac animal for 2027 is the sheep. Wool, a natural fiber made from its fleece, has long been used throughout the world. In Japan, however, sheep are not particularly familiar animals, as the country has limited pastureland outside of Hokkaidō. In contrast, sheep are common livestock in China and Europe, where mutton is widely consumed.
This exhibition presents artworks related to sheep——animals that, though rarely seen within Japan, have nonetheless been depicted in Japanese art in a variety of ways.
