Requests to Visitors to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Infection

We have ended our preventative measures against the spread of COVID-19.
The information on this page describes measures that were in effect until Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Requests to Visitors

Precautions Before You Visit
  • Exhibitions and events may be changed, canceled, or admission numbers restricted in response to changing circumstances. Prior to your visit, we recommend that you check our website and official Twitter page (Japanese only) for the latest information.
  • Please refrain from visiting if you fall into any of the following three categories:
    1. Those who have a fever that is at least 1 degree higher than normal.
    2. Those with symptoms such as a cough or sore throat.
    3. Those who have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.
In the Museum
  • Please cooperate with cough etiquette, coughing only into your mask.
  • Please wash your hands with soap and disinfect with alcohol. Alcohol for hand disinfection is made available in the museum.
  • Your temperature will be measured at the entrance to the museum's Heisei Chishinkan Wing. Visitors who have a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher (or more than 1 degree higher than normal) will be refused admission.
  • We request all visitors to maintain a distance of preferably at least 1 meter, from other visitors. Please take turns when viewing objects on exhibit. To prevent overcrowding, we request social distancing while waiting in line and may restrict visitor numbers.
  • Please refrain from conversation or utterances.
  • Do not touch the works on view, display cases, walls, or any other objects in the galleries.
Use of Facilities
  • Drinking fountains are not in use.
  • Please close the lid of the toilet seat before flushing the toilet.
  • Please minimize time spent resting inside the museum.
Instructions from Museum Staff
  • Museum staff members retain the right to instruct museum visitors independently according to the situation, regardless what is written in the descriptions above. In such cases, please follow the staff member's instructions.

The volunteer Kyohaku Navigators workshop has been cancelled.

Primary Measures to Prevent Infection

  1. Installation of rubbing alcohol
  2. Regular cleaning and rigorous disinfection
  3. Staff temperature measurement and health checks
  4. Staff use of masks, etc.
  5. Ventilation using air conditioning that brings in fresh air from outside
  6. Restrictions on admission when galleries are crowded
  7. Disabling of drinking fountains
  8. Posted warnings
